Free Agent Finds – Week 6 Fantasy Waiver Wire Pickups
Another week and more running backs making a splash on the waiver wire this week.Andre Williams, Ronnie Hillman and Branden Oliver are going to be very popular this week in Fantasy. Each one should be starting in Week 6 and probably for the next few weeks.
The Giants, Andre Williams will replace Rashad Jennings, who has a sprained left MCL and will miss a few weeks. The Broncos, RonnieHillman is expected to start in place of Montee Ball, who will also miss a few weeks with a groin injury. Oliver could start for the Chargers this week if Donald Brown (concussion) is out but with his performance against the Jets, clearly earned a good amount of touches.
All three replacement running backs are startable options this week, but I like Branden Oliver the best. Even if Mathews comes back, Oliver should assume the Danny Woodhead role at a minimum.
Andre Williams, RB, New York Giants:
With Jennings likely out a couple of weeks because of a knee injury, Williams should get the bulk of the touches. Next in line would be the less dynamic Peyton Hillis and maybe even Michael Cox if Coughlin trusts him. The matches the next few weeks against thePhiladelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys are favorable too.
Ronnie Hillman, RB, Denver Broncos:
Hillman looks primed to get another chance to start. He is good catching out of the backfield and as a blocker, but not so much between-the-tackles in traditional formations. Next week against the New York Jets, is a tough match up but could get garbage time yardage.
Branden Oliver, RB, San Diego Chargers:
Good thing I picked up Branden Oliver two weeks ago! (Shameless pat on the back!). Oliver was dynamic in Week 5, putting up 182 total yards against a great Jets run defense. Once Donald Brown left the game he got the bulk of the touches Brown looked a lot like Trent Richardson in 2013 and behind the same Chargers O-line Oliver ran much like Brown did last year for the Colts. Even if Ryan Mathews comes back in a couple of weeks, Oliver could remain a big part of San Diego’s backfield rotation filling the void left by Danny Woodhead.
Odell Beckham Jr., WR, Giants:
This week was finally the long awaited premier of Odell Beckham Jr for The Giants. I expect Beckham to be out there along with Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle most of the time going forward. He may not see enough work to be an every-week starter as of yet, but could make a good flex option with an occasional big play.
Tim Wright, TE, New England Patriots:
Another guy I drafted in the later rounds hoping he would be the new Aaron Hernandez. It seems the Patriots may have gotten that memo as well. I mean you traded for this guy for a reason no? I know, I don’t want to over react to one good game, its very tempting in fantasy football. Wright may yet prove a valuable weapon, but he makes a good pickup for now if you can stash him on your bench till he proves himself.
Antone Smith, RB, Atlanta Falcons:
What can I say, another guy I’ve been watching and saying to myself, oh he can’t break off another big for for a TD again! Hmmm Four TDs later he is still doing it. I cant recommend starting him but if your desperate, what do you have to lose.
