The last week of the season is always one of the hardest to figure out. This is exactly the reason no one likes their season long fantasy seasons to run this long. Motivation is the key factor this week when selecting your starting fantasy lineup. This is because many teams mathematically eliminated from the playoffs and others fighting hard to get in, this is why team motivation is a big factor when selecting daily fantasy players.
For DFS purposes, I only like to use players from teams that have something to play for. This week Im not crazy about using any Patriots and Colts this week because there is nothing for them to play for. Im also not a fan of teams that are completely out of it with nothing to play for. I may consider division rivalry games where nothing is at stake such as the Giants and Eagles game.
Playing for the bye:
Raiders @ Broncos – Denver gets the second seed with a win
Rams @ Seahawks – Seattle can lock up the 1st seed with a win
Cardinals @ 49ers – AZ has a chance at a bye with a win and a Seattle loss
Important for both teams:
Lions @ Packers – Winner gets a 1st round bye
Panthers at Falcons – Winner is in the playoffs, loser is out
Bengals @ Steelers – The Bengals have an outside shot at a 1st round bye with a win. This will be known before kickoff. Regardless the winner of this game wins the division and plays at home week one. Both teams should play hard throughout.
Games where both teams have nothing to play for:
Jets @ Miami – I like Wallace and maybe the Miami Defense in this one. but I’ll probably avoid most of the guys from this game because I could see the Jets playing well for Rex’s send off.
Bears @ Vikings – Bridgewater has been playing well the the last few weeks. I’d stack him with C. Johnson in some GPP’s. Asiata is the only game in town for the Vikings backfield and he makes for an excellent value play at RB. The Bears offense is riskier. I don’t know which Jay Cutler version will show up. I will stack up some variances of Cutler, Alshon, Wilson and Bennett in some GPP’s but they won’t be primary plays for me this week.
Eagles @ Giants – Eli, ODB and Sanchez are all playable in this game.
Saints @ Bucs – I don’t see much reason to get involved with this game. Stills and Ingram seem like decent plays this week.
Games Where Teams Have Something to Play For:
At Baltimore-vs Cleveland – Baltimore needs a win and in scenario so expect them to go all out. Cleveland on the other hand is starting their 3rd string QB. Enough said!
Baltimore Defense, Justin Forsett
Joe Flacco, Torrey Smith
At Houston vs Jacksonville – Houston is actually playing for a possible playoff spot. Case Keanum is the likely starter at QB for Houston here s0 look for a heavy dose of Arian Foster in this game.
Houston Defense, Arian Foster
Andre Johnson, Deandre Hopkins
At Kansas City vs San Diego – This game looks like a good one and I expect both teams to go all out since both teams need a win to have a shot at the playoffs. Because Alex Smith is out for this one we have no idea how his backup will perform the only Chief’s player I have confidence in is Jamal Charles. For San Diego there some interesting possibilities. Brandon Oliver makes for a very nice RB Punt especially for his salary on DraftKings. I also like Royal since Keenan Allen has been out.
Brandon Oliver, Eddie Royal
Dallas vs At Washington – They should go all out against a Washington team that is a mess and with nothing to play for. I will be stacking Romo with Dez in some lineups this week. For Washington I like DeSean Jackson this week as he had a nice game against them earlier this year and could have another nice game at home against an average Dallas Defense.
Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, DeMarco Murray
Jason Witten, DeSean Jackson
Cole Beasley – All in on Beasley as a cheap play
At Denver vs Oakland – Load up on Broncos for this game. Vegas is looking Denver to put up alot of points on the Raiders. Thomas, Sanders, and Im all in on C,J, Anderson as top RB play for this week.
Denver Defense, CJ Anderson
Peyton Manning, Demayius Thomas, Manny Sanders
At Seattle vs St. Louis – Russel Wilson has been playing really well the past few weeks. He should continue playing well at home, I expect more points from rushing yards than passing. I like Lynch this week too. Im going to pass on all Rams players this week.
Russel Wilson, Lynch
At San Francisco vs Arizona – Vegas has this one as 36.5 O/U. Not very good for Fantasy. Im passing on these offenses, but the defenses on the other hand are playable, especially the San Francisco D. They should be able to do well against the Cardinals Practice squad QB.
At Green Bay vs Detroit – This is an important game for both teams so I expect them to go all out. Detroit’s defense has been pretty good against QB’s and WR’s but with the Packers at home I’m going to go against conventional wisdom this week. I’m stacking Rodgers with Nelson this week. I dont feel the same way about the Detroit offense. Stafford hasn’t been playing very well the past few weeks which means Tate and Bell may not be good plays either. I make work Megatron into a few lineups though.
Rodgers, Nelson, Cobb, Lacy
At Atlanta vs Carolina –
This game is definitely going to be fantasy owners dream game of the week. This game is a win and your in game for both teams. Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Roddy White all have great matchups against an Carolina Defense thats been playing well. It looks like Jackson is out at RB which should make Devonta Freeman a great value play for the salary on FanDuel and DraftKings this week! For the minimum salary it wont take much for Freeman to provide a good value (see determining player value
). For the Panthers, I like Newton, Kelvin Benjamin, Stewart and Greg Olson.
Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Roddy White, Cam Newton, Kelvin Benjamin, Greg Olsen, Jonathan Stewart
At Pittsburgh vs Cincinnati – This game will have meaning for both teams no mater the outcome of all the other games. Dalton does not play well in prime time games and to make things worse , AJ Green got hurt last week . I expect the Bengals to lean on Hill this week making him a good play. The Cincinatti Defense has been terrible stopping anyone on the ground. LeVeon Bell is the top RB play this week , remember what he did to them the last time these teams met?. Given the high price point he may be hard to squeeze into your lineups this week..
LeVeon Bell, Antonio Brown
Jeremy Hill, AJ Green, Ben Roethlesburger
Gio Bernard, Martavis Bryant, Pittsburgh Defense
