DraftKings Advice and Analysis
Even though we are down to 4 teams and the variations in teams is pretty limited, there is still a strategy to winning. We want to disregard the salaries this week and just draft the best options for our teams. If you have a few hundred dollars of cap space left, and you like your team, don’t upgrade a player simply because of price. This week, DraftKings lowered the minimum prices of skill players to $2,000, so you may have some cap space leftover.
All four quarterbacks are priced at $7,800 or higher this weekend, and oddly enough, Aaron Rodgers is the cheapest quarterback this weekend. On FanDuel on the other hand, all four quarterbacks are very closely priced so there is no really cheap option. In a nice contrarian play, if you do want Aaron Rodgers, DraftKings price gives you a discount, most likely because he is on the road in Seattle and has a nagging calf injury.
This weekend, I’m going with Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson and Tom Brady as the three quarterbacks to build lineups around, for different reasons. Luck is my favorite because the Colts throw a lot and they will probably NEED to throw a lot. Even if its garbage time, play from behind points. They Patriots have be tough on Fantasy WR’s all year, but throwing to the RB and TE has been their weakness. DraftKings scoring rewards quarterbacks with an additional 3 points if they throw for over 300 yards. This makes Luck my choice because Luck and Brady are probably the only two quarter backs that will pass for over 300 yards. In fact, Im expecting the Patriots to try to run all over the Colts like they did last time. But in the remote chance that they let Brady duel it out, Ill put him in some lineups. Note – Luck scored about 23 fantasy points in their last meeting.
As far as Wilson, his rushing ability gives him an extra bonus against a weak Packers defense, Wilson had about 29 yards rushing last time these two teams met. Im not a fan of his receivers but they do a lot of misdirection and seem to get the job done.
Brady is my main tournament play at quarterback, because he has the best weapon in Rob Gronkowski, who lit the Colts up in their last meeting. He was almost uncoverable. Wilson and Luck may be safer than Brady because the Patriots offense is unpredictable and may decide to run the whole game
At running back, I am paying up for Marshawn Lynch and I have to keep riding Dan Herron this week against a tough New England secondary. Lynch didn’t do much last week against the Panthers, but this weekend, he faces the Packers rush defense, who ranked near last in allowing fantasy points to opposing running backs this season. As for Herron, he has become a must-play on DraftKings due to his price value for the amount of production you get from him. This is because of his ability to catch the football out of the backfield. In his two playoff games this post season, Herron has 18 catches and has scored in each game. He will be top play this weekend for his price among all running backs and will probably be owned by everyone playing on DraftKings this weekend.
The wide receiver position is a bit spotty this weekend. The Packer guys are playing in Seattle and The Colts are playing in New England. Specifically because the best receiver Jordy Nelson will likely be covered by Richard Sherman, and the other top wide out T.Y. Hilton will be shadowed by lockdown corner, Darrelle Revis. Assuming Brandon LaFell will be followed by Vontae Davis, the wide receiver position is a punt this week. Randall Cobb ,may be the only receiver worth paying for provided they keep him in the slot and away from Sherman’s side of the field.. Cobb has also been in the backfield for third-downs, giving him more of an opportunity to run or catch the football. Davante Adams I think will see a far amount of targets if the Seahawks roll coverage to Nelson.
The Colts receivers are going to be a crap shoot. I like each of them for different reasons. With Hilton being followed by Revis all day, Hakeem Nicks I like as a red zone target, Wayne a possession receiver and Montcrief as a possible deep threat getting past Browner Hicks and Wayne will come down how much money I have left to spend.. It is the playoffs so expect Wayne to be targeted
Well the obvious choice is Gronk, he is a must start, so I expect everyone else playing on DraftKings to play him as well. Definitely use him in cash games, but in GPP games fading Gronkowski is a good strategy, simply because everyone will have him. My advice, go with Dwayne Allen or Luke Willson in GPP tournament plays as this would allow you to spend on someone like Cobb at wide receiver.
