Former Washington Redskins safety, LeRon Landry, has agreed to a one year deal with the New York Jets.

The deal is for one year and $4 million, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Jets were running out of options in a safety market after losing out on Reggie Nelson, who opted to re-sign Sunday with theCincinnati Bengals. The Jets also showed interest in Brandon Meriweather, who signed with the Redskins last week.

Landry, the No. 6 overall pick in 2007, missed 15 games over the last two seasons because of an Achilles-tendon issue. He reportedly was told by the Redskins to have surgery to remove bone spurs from the tendon area, but he opted for alternative medicine procedures.

With Eric Smith the only experienced safety under contract, the Jets wanted to fortify the position before the draft.

The Jets want a playmaker at safety, as their safeties combined for only two interceptions last season. They also struggled in pass coverage against tight ends. However, Landry isn’t known for his pass coverage; he has only four interceptions in five seasons.

The 6-foot, 220-pound Landry is better around the line of scrimmage, a physical tackler that should improve the Jets’ run defense. He has six forced fumbles and 5½ sacks for his career.

Landry was on his way to becoming a premier safety when he was sidelined by injuries.

After what seemed like a long nationwide tour, Peyton watch finally comes to an end. The superstar free agent is set to sign with the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos beat out such contenders as the Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans in pursuit of Manning. Denver seemed like little more than a dark horse early in the process, but Manning developed a good relationship with Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway.

It is now being reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the Broncos will attempt to trade Tebow.

It has become increasingly obvious that Elway didn’t believe Tebow was a long-term answer. Because of this Elway and the Broncos were aggressive in their pursuit of Manning and ultimately convinced him to sign

The Broncos with their young Wide receivers Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker have both shown the potential to be game-breakers. Their running back Willis McGahee provided a great presence in the backfield last season and two good defensive ends will make the Broncos quite a team this season with Manning.

It will all depend on how long Manning will be able to hold up and whether he can return to his previous form. One thing is for sure, it will be quite a year in Denver!.

Defensive end Mario Williams came up big yet again, this time OFF the field, when the Buffalo Bills made him the first defensive player in NFL history to receive a $100 million contract.

The final numbers are staggering: six years, $100 million, $50 million guaranteed.

The guaranteed money is also the most for a defensive player and tied for the second most all-time with Sam Bradford’s rookie contract. Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson secured a record $62 million in guaranteed money just this week with his contract extension.

What do these numbers mean for the Bills? Let’s take a quick look.

Money Up Front

The Bills have a lot of money tied into the defensive line. Mario Williams ($100 million), Kyle Williams ($39 million, $17 million guaranteed) and Marcell Dareus ($20.4 million, fully guaranteed) will eat up a sizable chunk of the Bills’ salary cap for 2012 and beyond.

If the Bills pursue a defensive lineman in an early round of April’s NFL draft, more money and guarantees will go to that area. While the money has added up for Buffalo, pass-rushers are worth every cent.

As the New York Giants showed last season, a dominant defensive line changes everything.

Capped?

What about the Bills’ salary cap for 2012? According to NYJetsCap.com, a site that breaks down the cap for Buffalo and the three other AFC East teams, the Bills had roughly $23 million in cap room before Williams’ deal. Williams’ deal shouldn’t threaten that entire surplus, even if it is front-loaded.

Still, regardless of whether the contract is front- or back-loaded, the Bills have drastically cut their spending power in 2012 and beyond. But when you sign a player of Williams’ caliber, you expect that kind of sacrifice.

When the dust settles, Buffalo shouldn’t have to worry about going off the top end of the 2012 cap.

Stop Sign for Free Agents?

Big deals like the one Williams received can sometimes handcuff a team from signing other free agents in the same year or subsequent ones. That could potentially be the case here.

Williams is due to make $53 million of his $100 million in the first three years, which is a staggering number to kick off the contract. It’s possible that the Bills might have to get creative with the cap in upcoming seasons.

Overall, a Win?

Forget the numbers for a second. It’s hard to ignore that the signing of Williams in Buffalo is somewhat reminiscent of the Packers’ move to get Reggie White back in 1993.

In the end, the Bills needed a player of Williams’ caliber to lift them back into NFL relevancy. It took some money to accomplish, but there’s no arguing that Buffalo is now back on the map.

As if waking up next to Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen weren’t enough, Tom Brady now needs positive thoughts to be more successful! Today, the New york Post obtained a copy of an email that Gisele sent out to her friends and family where she asked them,

“My sweet friends and family. This sunday will be a really important day in my husband’s life. He and his team worked so hard to get to this point and now they need us more than ever to send them positive energy so they can fulfill their dream of winning this super bowl. [...] I feel Tommy really needs our prayer, our support and love at this time. [...]

So I kindly ask all of you to join me on this positive chain and pray for him, so he can feel confident, healthy and strong. Envision him happy and fulfilled experiencing with his team a victory this sunday.”

Well I’d have to say that Tom is doing pretty good for himself even with out those prayers, but it is great to see her concern!

Maybe Tim Tebow will send him so positive thoughts and prayers too!

Remember that betting on NFL games with an online sportsbook or offline is not legal in all jurisdictions. So if you are planning on using LOCKdownCorner.com’s NFL selections to gamble on NFL games at online NFL sportsbooks, it might be wise to check if NFL gambling is legal in your specific jurisdiction.

As always, beware of sites offering paid or free NFL betting picks in connection with a varying unit betting system. If you are using their pro football betting picks to gamble on NFL football games, you might consider that some of these sites are providing money tips which are likely to drain your NFL sportsbook account. Earning gambling profits long term takes discipline to know there is always another game to bet on. Most free sports pick sites don’t understand that it requires more than winning football predictions to earn a living betting on sports. So for anyone living in an area where NFL gambling is legal, keep in mind that relying on “bet the house” free NFL picks could seriously reduce your NFL betting success.

LOCKdownCorner.com is different. We don’t advise using reckless and wildly varying units to wager on our subscription based or free football picks. Click the following to get further information on receiving LOCKdownCorner.com’s plays versus the spread.

Kevin Smith, RB, Detroit Lions : I was going to put him away on my bench last week but I didnt have room, but Smith is a good waiver add, Considering his 201 yards from scrimmage Sunday versus the terrible Carolina Panthers run D. He’s your obvious No. 1 add this week, though he has a much tougher matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, Smith has a chance to stick as the Lions’ starter.

Toby Gerhart, RB, Minnesota Vikings: Adrian Peterson won’t play in Week 12, making Gerhart an option for AP owners Sunday against a strong Atlanta Falcons run D. Im concerned about the Vikings offense, but he should have a full workload to himself, and that’s worth something.

Ryan Grant, RB, Green Bay Packers: I figured I’d mention him just in case he’s been dropped in your league. James Starks suffered injury last week, and considering the Packers get only three days off Starts will most likely be out. That likely means Grant gets the most backfield touches Thursday.

C.J. Spiller, RB, Buffalo Bills: Fred Jackson reportedly will be out Week 12 against the New York Jets. That would likely mean Spiller gets the start. The Buffalo offense looks just awful these days and with the Jets playing the run quite well, between touches from scrimmage and catching passes he should put up some numbers. He also has some good matchups coming up.

Montario Hardesty, RB, Cleveland Browns: Chris Ogbonnaya has submitted two good games in a row, racking up 243 yards from scrimmage in Weeks 10 and 11 combined. But Hardesty is a stronger, tougher runner, and would definately get some of the touches.

Jerome Simpson, WR, Cincinnati Bengals: Simpson’s 152 yards receiving on eight grabs versus the Baltimore Ravens last week got peoples attention. With A.J. Green out of the lineup, Simpson got bumped up to the No. 1 receiver role,. Simpson could get Andy Dalton’s primary looks again.
